It's closer to a digital version of a physical cruising space than it is to Grindr or Scruff. Here's the thing: the no-account browsing is real. You can open Sniffies without signing up, see active users in your area, and get a sense of whether there's anyone around worth messaging. Creating a profile takes about 60 seconds and unlocks messaging. The freemium tier is usable - free accounts can send and receive messages, see the map, and set status. Sniffies+ at $9.99/month adds visibility controls, profile views list, and the ability to see who's looking at your dot. Real talk: Sniffies skews heavily toward gay men looking for in-person meetups in the near term. The interface is explicitly designed for that use case - there's no long-form bio field, no compatibility quiz, no suggested matches. If you want a date-focused experience with relationship potential baked in, this isn't the right tool. If you want to know who's actually available right now within half a mile, nothing else competes. Coverage is strong in cities and near known cruising areas. Suburban coverage drops off the same way Pure's does.
