It's a live streaming platform that straddles mainstream and adult content - positioned as a South Korean streaming competitor to Twitch - and that dual-use nature creates some friction when you're evaluating it for safety. It works. But it's not built with the privacy-first architecture you'd want for sensitive content consumption.

We checked the basics: SOOP runs on HTTPS with a modern TLS 1.3 implementation. Age verification requires account creation with a date of birth input - no government ID, no credit card gate. The privacy policy is published in English and Korean, and discloses that soop.tv collects device identifiers, IP addresses, and browsing behavior within the platform. Importantly, the platform serves third-party ad units on free streams, and we noticed at least two ad redirects during testing in March 2026 that briefly attempted to open new tabs - manageable with a pop-up blocker, but worth noting. The ad behavior is the primary technical risk vector here.

SOOP is technically free to watch, but certain creator content requires purchasing SOOP Stars (the platform's virtual currency) to access premium streams or tip streamers. The billing for Stars appears on statements as "AFREECA TV" or "SOOP" depending on the payment method. Cancellation isn't relevant here since it's credit-based rather than subscription-based - you just stop buying Stars. We couldn't verify the exact refund policy on unused Stars balance independently.

SOOP is fine for people who want live streaming content and are comfortable with mainstream ad tracking.
