The 5/10 reflects a different kind of safety concern: it hosts explicit content without meaningful age verification, and its content moderation policies have historically been inconsistent in ways that matter.

We examined derpibooru.org in March 2026 across the standard dimensions. HTTPS is enforced and the certificate is valid. No payment information is required anywhere on the site - it's entirely free and community-funded. The age verification mechanism is essentially nonexistent: a single click-through that requires no account, no email, and no age confirmation beyond clicking. What's notable - and what casual users might not realize - is that Derpibooru hosts an enormous archive of My Little Pony fan art ranging from completely safe-for-work to explicitly sexual, and the content filtering is opt-in rather than opt-out. A new user arriving without an account sees filtered content by default, but the filtering is tag-based and imperfect. The privacy policy covers standard data practices for a community forum, with session cookies and optional account registration.
